Slut Walk....Besharmi Morcha.....Shameless Walk....Walk Without Shame
Different names but one mission………All over the world women are organizing a slut walk against the remark of a Canadian police officer who said “if women want to avoid rape they should not dress like a slut”.
Nothing could generate more buzz than the aesthetically and skimpily dressed group of women walking down under the open sky on the public roads protesting against a school of thought which holds a view that skimpily dressed women instigate sexual crime against themselves.
What a Pity……We appreciate the artist who fetches millions of dollar for sketching the body of a women in her natural form but we feel offended and instigated to commit a crime when the same women dressed somewhat skimpily but aesthetically walk in her live form to make a statement about herself and her beauty. What an irony some feel offended and people like me are motivated to dress elegantly myself and ask my women to dress like them. No surprises, what else you can expect from the society which has been committing a crime against the seemingly helpless nature, diluting its natural form and shamelessly misusing it for their selfish interest. They believe that nature exist to serve them and if it feel like exploited it should develop a protective mechanism itself.
Is a woman being raped and sexually harassed because she dress skimpily or she is sexually molested because she seems too weak (physically she might be but mentally I don’t think). I find her weak in the presence of a system which is against transparency, hiding all the national treasure they have accumulated for their own self over the years (how could you expect this kind of system to allow the women to glorify the treasure of her beauty), a system which want to make itself immune to all the punishments which can be pronounced for all its wrong doings and which itself is raping the underprivileged, malnourished ,weaker section of the society and depriving them of their due (how could you expect this system to provide immunity to the women against all crimes ), a system which draw its power from the ignorance , casteism, fanaticism among the masses (how could you expect this system to develop a culture where women beauty is appreciated not tormented).
One of the columnist in Hindustan Times Seema Goswami while commenting on the slut walk writes that if you keep your door unlocked, you are inviting the robbers to rob, the other female columnist Amrit Dhillon says there are other issues like dowry, domestic violence etc. to protest against than why this walk to fight for the right to wear whatever women feel like. Some people disagree just for the fear of being ostracized from the society from which they seeks approval for their actions. The same seems to be true in the case of both the columnist. It’ not necessary that every women feel confident & comfortable wearing all kind of dresses, it’s individual choice and ability to carry herself… so if you cant walk with them at least support them. In most of the cases of domestic violence against a women, it has been seen that the other women around her have played the role of a vamp ( be it the mother in law, sister in law or her own mother who was more inclined to her son and the other competing women vying for the attention of his husband ). A women can only help a women fight against the hegemony of man and if this doesn’t happen than like a shrewd politician man will always exploit and rule the women through age old and trusted policy of divide and rule. Till all the women wake up to this truth and collectively fight for their cause, all you men with liberated thoughts enjoy the buzz around our own Indian version of Slut Walk being spearheaded by a 19 year old Delhi University student Umang Sabharwal and wait for the D-day to give your eyes a visual treat of women dressed in some oomph dresses.
At last I take this opportunity to tell the male fraternity that…. Now the choice is yours “ either you respect the women or one unlucky day you will be flooded away with the tsunami of her anger like the nature vindictive act of destruction against the rape committed by humans on natural resources.
Kudos Ms. Umang Sabharwal …..It’s time to move on…let the man grow up to Thumps Up.
